Málaga can be more than a gateway to the coast. Combine the historic centre and one art museum with a harbour walk, then give the beach its own unhurried day.
Four days, without the dash
Begin with the historic quarter and the area around the Roman theatre. On day two choose a museum, leaving the afternoon for the harbour. Keep a separate day for La Malagueta or another beach, and use the last morning for a market or favourite street.
Hills or waterfront
The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro area need a different walking plan from the harbour promenade. Check gradients, access and the weather before choosing an uphill route. An accommodation listing’s map pin does not tell you how easy the walk will feel.
An art-led alternative
Choose one collection for depth instead of buying several admissions on arrival. Málaga’s museums and Soho offer a different day from a beach outing. Confirm current exhibitions and opening arrangements with the venue before making a timed plan.
Cost and season
Compare city-centre stays with coastal accommodation and the journeys each requires. Shoulder-season travel can suit walking, but beach weather is never guaranteed. Ask about local charges, room occupancy and cancellation before paying.
