Choose a few works of art you really want to see, then enjoy the streets between them. Florence is a better short break when its galleries leave room for the river and Oltrarno.
A three-day art break
Start with the cathedral area and a short walk towards the Arno. Reserve the second day for one main gallery, keeping time afterwards for a meal and the river. Explore Oltrarno on day three, with another collection only if it fits comfortably.
Book the exact admission
Check whether your chosen ticket covers the museum, a particular exhibition or a separate monument. Cathedral-complex products can have different inclusions. Buy from the official venue or compare a guided tour’s precise entry arrangements before paying.
Walk with a realistic budget
A compact route can reduce local transport spending, but do not economise by choosing a base that makes every day difficult. Ask about station access, steps and local accommodation charges. Price a city card only against your planned visits.
Choose depth over distance
Keep a countryside excursion separate from gallery days. Opening times, timed admissions and queues affect how much fits into a morning. Our suggested route is editorial planning, with current venue arrangements to confirm before travel.
