Start with the Danube, then explore one side of Budapest at a time. Mix riverside walking with a carefully chosen bath or museum visit.
A three-day route
Spend your first afternoon along the Danube, keeping bridge crossings and viewpoints in one area. Give Buda’s Castle District a separate day. Use the third for City Park or one thermal bath, with a café stop rather than another cross-city dash.
Build a lower-cost break
Compare accommodation near a useful public-transport connection with the cost of staying beside a landmark. Make riverside walks the backbone of the itinerary. Choose one paid attraction and price bath admission separately; packages and weekend entry can change the total.
Choose the right season
For a quieter city break, compare ordinary midweek dates with festival weekends. Winter gives the city a different atmosphere but needs warm layers and indoor alternatives. Do not assume an off-season flight guarantees a cheap hotel.
Check before booking
Check bath age rules, accessibility and the ticket type directly with the operator. Ask your hotel about local charges. Compare airport transport, luggage and currency costs as part of your full budget.
